NEHU VC apologises; faculty not happy

SHILLONG, Jan 28 (PTI) – North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Pramod Tandon on Wednesday apologised to the agitating teaching-and non-teaching staff for hurting their sentiments but the later rejected it saying the apology was not substantial.

Seeking to end the six-week impasse at the varsity, Tandon addressed the assembly of the faculty members and tendered an apology. The VC also appealed for restoration of normalcy inthe varsity even as he assured that there would be no breach of any act or ordinance in future. However, Joint Action Committee of the agitating faculty and non-teaching staff S Prasad said Tandon was not substantial in the apology as he failed to own up moral responsibility for the impasse inthe varsity . “He should have owned up responsibility for not releasing the salaries of December till 25th of the month, besides taking a decision to stop the hill area special allowance which later was however reinstated after our protests,” Prasad said.
