Khuga opening an eyewash: Contractors’ JAC

M Kaimuanthang
LAMKA, Aug 5: The JAC formed against the move for inauguration of the Khuga Multipurpose Project on the condition that the dam is fully completed and all pending bills are cleared to the contractors by the state government, has issued yet another press statement today in which it stated the government had not made any tangible progress so far though the move had been announced.

The JAC said the government’s attempt is tomfoolery as mere whitewashing and making attractive of the various components temporarily would have no benefit to offer to the public of Churachandpur, as none of the components are fully completed.

It said the temporary attractiveness will not even last for the short duration of stay of the Prime Minister who is supposed to inaugurate the project shortly. If he really takes the trouble to come it means the Central government and people of the district would be deceived by the state government

The JAC accused the state government of simply trying to get away from the bad name it has earned for itself by not being able to complete a single dam out of the many ventures it had undertaken so far

Pointing out the inability of the government in clearing bills of the contractors so far and citing the painstaking efforts the contractors had put in to complete the works with the hope that the bills would be cleared, the JAC said even if the PM goes ahead to inaugurate the project it would mean the people are being duped by the state government.

The JAC said the government is trying to make Churachandpur a source of making easy bucks by using the dam to pool more funds only to be diverted for the construction of other dams in the state which are pending completion, adding this is because the state government has been promised more funds once the Khuga dam is inaugurated.

Condemning the move in the strongest terms, the JAC said it has decided to apprise the matter to the Central government soon by sending representatives who would oppose the inauguration move.
