Imphal goes without newspapers

IMPHAL: No newspapers hit the stands in Imphal on Wednesday as the editors and reporters stayed away from office in view of the death threat held out by a militant outfit.

This is the second time in 10 days that newspapers have not been brought out due to militant threats.

One group had issued a press release for publication in the newspapers.

However, another group asked the editors and reporters to spike it.

When it was pointed out that it must be published since press releases of all other outfits are published, some of the editors were threatened with execution.

Having the Hobson's choice, the editors in a late-night meeting decided not to discharge duty.
