Aizawl, Jul 9 (UNI) : The court of Additional District and Session Judge K L Liana has sentenced a man to ten-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000.If the convict would be unable to pay the fine, he will serve an additional six-month term in jail, the judgement said yesterday.
Sources said Lalchhuanawma(40) of Mualkhang village had confessed to the court that he had molested the victim, of the same village, about seven times before 2006. His gruesome acts came to light following his last attempt on March 24, 2006. On that day, the girl was alone in the house as her parents attend a funeral in the village. When her parents returned, they found her sobbing. At first, she dared not disclose the incident. However, as her parents insisted, she revealed that she had been molested by Lalchhuanawma.
The girl’s father immediately lodged an FIR with Khawzawl police station in Champhai district.
The accused initially said he was just playing with her but on further investigation, it was discovered that he had molested the girl several times before. According to her revelation, the first incident took place in 2004 when the man lured the girl inside his house with a promise of giving her a bracelet. On the other hand, the girl alleged that he had raped her for about ten times after that. ”Looking into the seriousness of the crime he committed, I don’t find any reason to show leniency to the rapist,” K L Liana said in the judgement in response to the defence lawyer. –UNI
