World Water Day observed in state too
Imphal, March 22: “World Water Day” was observed in the state too like in other parts of the globe today with a function at Children Modern Academy, Thanga, organised jointly by the District Water and Sanitation Committee, Bishnupur and Loktak Lake Environment Conservation Centre.
In the observance under the theme “Clean Water for Healthy World”, retired senior reader Dr Khangenbam Shamugou talked as resource person. If World War-III is broken out, it will be from water crisis among the countries. He said water is the basic requirement for all living things. Seventy percent of the globe is water body. But due to repeat felling down of trees and mass scale deforestation, mark changes in the climatic condition is witnessing in the globe.
This may led to the water scarcity which would create water crisis. The water crisis has already started facing; he said adding that there is no reason for reduction in the water storage capacity of the Loktak Lake but due to lack of taking initiative to conserve the lack, the water in this lake become poisonous.
MLA Tongbram Mangibabu who graced the observance function as chief guest while pradhan L Mani of Thanga Part-II GP presided over the function which social president of DWSC, Bishnupur, its member secretary Umakanta, PHED AEL Gokul, headmaster of Children Academy L Shova attened as guests of honour.
MLA Mangibabu said that without water man cannot survive. The only way to check from water crisis is to save environment and stop global warming. The state too experience impact of climate change. There witness changes in the winter and summer seasons. Mass scale deforestation carrying out in the state is the main cause, he observed.
