Slow progress of PMSP projects in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 22: Poor law and order situation and frequent disturbances on the national highways in the state have delayed the progress of projects sanctioned under Prime Minister’s Special Package (PMSP) in Manipur, said chief minister O Ibobi Singh.

It may be mentioned that in November 2004, during Prime Minister Dr Manmohon Singh’s visit in the state, he announced a special package for the state. Some of the major projects included were construction of Jiribam-Tupul (near Imphal) railway line, Imphal Capitol Project, mini secretariat in every headquarters of nine districts, Loktak Down Stream Project, Khuga Multi-purpose Project, Thoubal Multi-purpose Project, Dolaithabi Barrage, Night Landing Facilities at Imphal Airport and Tipaimukh Hydro-electricity Project.

However, except the Khuga Multi-Purpose Project which was recently inaugurated by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, no other projects had been completed so far.

Unhappy with the slow progress, PMO office called Ibobi to explain the reason behind it on Saturday last.
Further, Ibobi during the review meeting in New Delhi placed physical progress report of the two Assembly complex component at 80% (structural works) and 20% (service and finishing) and financial utilization progress at 86.82 crore out of total projected cost of Rs 175 crore.

Even though construction works were reported to be in progress, no specific time for completion of the said projects was placed in the meeting, official sources disclosed.
