CCpur embarks on a cleanliness drive
Lamka, Oct 14: In an apparent attempt to instill awareness on the need for a clean environment to the denizens of Churachandpur, the DRDA has initiated a month long cleanliness drive that started to coincide with the National Cleanliness day on October 2 with the promise of rewarding the best performing villages.

Sixty villages have enrolled for the cleanliness competition that promises to confer the title, ‘the clean-est village of Churachand- pur,’ with a bonus of Rs. 50,000 in cash to the best performing village.

The second best and the third best villages would be receiving Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 each. The DRDA has also assured consolation prizes worth Rs. 10,000 to five villages.

The drive which has so far received huge response in and around the township and a marked improvement in cleanliness of all the locality could be seen.

Espousing the DRDA drive, its Chairman Jacintha Lazarus today told The Sangai Express that it was an attempt to instill a permanent awareness among the denizens on the need for a clean and healthy environment.

Two additional trucks are being engaged to help the lone sanitary truck of the ADC in clearing the town’s trash, in tune with DRDA’s month long drive. It is pertinent to mention that the lone sanitary truck is struggling to clear the dirt of the entire township, as a result of which the dustbins located in the area adjoining to the vegetable markets are repeatedly over spilled.

Though most of the sixty odd participants have been enlisted through their respective village authorities, some have enlisted themselves under the local clubs and organisations.

Sources in the DRDA said that the result of the competition will be announced in first week of November. The month long cleanliness competition is part of the DRDA Churachandpur’s continuous process in converging the developmental programmes that it has been implemented with an environmental outlook.

Some months back, the agency had embarked on a massive mission of planting over one lakh tree saplings in the catchment areas.
