Aizawl, May 20 (PTI): Security arrangements were made for Mizoram University vice-chancellor, Prof. A.N. Rai, who the Mizo Students Union asked to leave the state before 3.30pm yesterday.
Armed police were posted on the university campus at Tanhril here and at Rai’s official residence in Luangmual of Aizawl, district superintendent of police Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said today. The students were demanding “equal opportunity” for candidates from the state in the recruitment of 117 assistant and associate professors, which is under way since last week.
The students’ union alleged that Rai was blocking the recruitment of local candidates in the name of good academic records while he had recruited 28 alumni of the Benaras Hindu University, his alma mater.
