Imphal, May 3: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh saying the Kuki people also oppose Muivah’s Manipur Visit.
The letter said that the impending visit of Muivah to Manipur has created a state of confusion among the people. The special treatment fitting for a head of state accorded to him by Government of India is all themore unsettling for the people of the North East Region ever since news of shi trip has been splashed all over the media.
It questioned what did Muivah do to deserve a red carpet reception in the backdrop of the reason of his ethnic cleansing policy towards the Kuki people left unanswered by the GOI.
It said “His proponents may call him the ‘champion of peace in the South East Asia, but he is a Champion of Peace because he was killing over 900 Kukis, uprooting 350 Kuki Villages and rendering over 1,00,000 Kukis refugees in their own land during the 1990s?”.
Drawing the attention of the Prime Minister KIM pointed out that over 60 memorandum to five successive Prime Minister on the plights of the Kuki people however to the dismay of the Kuki people the GOI never reciprocate to their calls for talk, and did not bother to lend an ear to the pleas of the bonafide citizens of India, it maintained.
The KIM further questioned whether the Kuki people were not the subject of the India adding that the Kuki wage war against the British to protect their freedom and land. After India’s independence the Kuki people in the NE region have become the citizen of India but throughout the years negligence and discrimination are just the tell tale signs shown by the GOI towards the Kuki people.
It claimed that the issue plaguing Manipur can be settled or set to rest when the GOI takes into confidence the Kuki people. Because the they have defended the region against the invading british Government till 1919, the land is still belongs to the tribals till today. Therefore, the Kuki people will not capitulate or neither buckled under pressure from any authority if their protection and freedom is nor insured, it held.
KIM revealed that the Kukis are carefully observing the talks between NSCN-IM and GOI which is undergoing without an iota of concern about the Kuki problem and stated that the ongoing bilateral talk is a farce and held that talks sans the participation of the Kuki people will stir up a hornet’s nest which will certainly create upheaval all over the NE region.
It said that until and unless clarification to the following questions are made to the satisfaction i.e, Why Th. Muivah Killed innocent people, uprooted villages and rendered 100,000 homeless, the UNC Manipur served Quit notice to the Kuki on October 22, 1992. Subsequently NSCN-IM killed 900, uprooted 360 villages, and rendered 100,000 homeless. No wonder why the Naga organizations led by the UNC Manipur want red carpet welcome to such a criminal, whose order the settlement was failed?, on what ground of law of the GOI gave Interpol to Th. Muivah? when and by what court order he has been condoned his crimes as an enemy of state to go scot-free while completely ignoring his criminal acts? and how an anti Indian like Muivah has been provided the highest VVIP treatment?, the visit and welcome of Muivah will never be accepted by the Kuki people.
In the meantime, the All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union (AAMSU), National Identity protection Committee (NIPCO), The MMP youth front, Threatened Indigenous Peoples’ Society (TIPS) Manipur, in a statement opposed the visit of Muivah.
