Iwonder if having skyscrapers & Super Mall in Imphal town or a well lit street-lights over an 8-Lane Super Highways without visible pot-holes and reduce number of neck-breaking speed breakers or to have a mile long stretches of Flyovers, where “Koreans-wannabe’ & ‘Megadeth-look-alike’ youngsters drool to zip and drift on a near lakh super bikes or cars would deem us fit to be part of the civilized world? I wonder...
However my educated understanding of ‘civilization’ is not a degree of individual’s accumulated affluence perse but rather a connotation of visible fulfillment of individual basic necessesities, such as provision of potable drinking water, abundant power supply, proper sanitation & sewer management, good health-care system and quality education.
Therefore, it is my earnest believe that once these requirements are met, the citizens will no longer have the reason to complain about infringement of their “Rights” (or for that matter, the lack of it) but to start contemplating on how to fulfill their “Duties”. Eventually, there will be no need for new JACs, no Dharnas, no sit-in-protest, no strikes/bandhs which has been the only means for the people and by the people to vent their grievances. But a true democratic state machinery with a well functioning
departments to implement developmental programmes on time, a discipline law enforcement agencies for law abiding people; a responsible government for a responsive citizens.
Once again, a renewed hope for peace and brotherhood will prevail in Manipur, where tribe of all communities will join hands with Bihari brethrens towards one destiny and one dream of reaching a common political discourse, which is peace and development with a sense brotherhood...
Shouldn’t this be a reason enough to answer all ails of our society? I still wonder if civilization will ever be part this side of the country...
