NHRC inspects CCpur district hospital

Lamka, Oct 19: A three member National Human Rights Commission team today began a protracted probe on the facilities available at district hospital here.

The team headed by DIG Satinder Pal Singh was here to ascertain whether the hospital has in actuality offered all the facilities the State Government has claimed and to probe if there is any anomaly in the hospital’s upgradation process and procurement of machineries.

The team which has two investigating officers began their investigation with a visit to the hospital early today and met the Medical Superintendent as well as the Chief Medical Officer.

Later in the day, the team interacted with the Chief Accountant, besides inspecting all records pertaining to the tender and award procedure for supply, installation and maintenance of the CT Scan machine. They also sought records pertaining to the hospital upgradation, including the audit.

Interaction with Nodal Officer of NEC, EE (electrical), Senior Management official of the company which supply the CT scan, and inspection of all relevant records pertaining to upgradation of the hospital are some the team’s itinerary tomorrow.

The team will interact with the Deputy Commissioner on the third day, while they are set to conduct further investigation at Imphal from Friday before they wind up the investigation on Sunday.

The NHRC’s investigation was an offshoot of a complaint which Zomi Human Rights Foundation have filed way back in 2004.

There are several communications between the State Government and the NHRC since, but the lack of practicality in conforming to the commission’s direction is said to have compelled NHRC to conduct on the spot investigation.
