NP escorting FCI trucks

IMPHAL, Apr 5 : Trucks loaded with rice and sugar stationed at Dimapur following a prohibition made by NSCN(K) against transportation of these items to Manipur in connection with their demand of Rs 50 lakhs to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) have started moving for Mao with security escorts provided by Nagaland Police.
Fearing reprisal from the militant outfit, 80 trucks engaged for transporting rice and sugar to Manipur have been stranded at Dimapur near the FCI godown since March 31.
In addition to the security escorts being provided by Nagaland police till Mao Gate, the transporters are asking the State Government to provide security escorts from Mao to Imphal in view of the 72 hours general strike called by the JAC for 2006/2009 Autonomous District Council DPC Faced Candidates’ Parents and Guardians in hill districts from April 6 till April 9.
The Nagaland Government agreed to provide security escorts in response to an instruction from the Home Ministry. The Home Ministry issued the instruction after it was apprised about the matter by the State Government.
Meanwhile, State Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department has asked the DGP to arrange security escorts to bring the trucks till Imphal.
On reaching Sangaiprou here, rice and sugar brought from Dimapur FCI godown would be handed over to Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department.
