70 trucks freed from NSCN-K clasp

Kohima: All the Manipur bound trucks detained by NSCN(K) demanding ransom at Dimapur on Monday left for the neighbouring state after Nagaland police arrested a militant and provided the drivers security on the highway.

Dimapur police arrested an NSCN(K) activist from Chandel district of Manipur for detaining over 70 trucks, most of them laden with essential commodities, in the FCI godown area of the town where the trucks were stranded for past few days, police sources said.

They said although they had not received any formal complaints either from Manipur police or the truck operators, they came to know that some miscreants had detained the Manipur trucks loaded with essential commodities at FCI godown and intervened into the situation. When police personnel on Sunday reached the place they saw three boys in the area and when challenged they fled but one was caught. He identified himself as a self styled "Sgt" of NSCN(K) Chandel region. (PTI)
