Imphal, March 26: Two hardcore cadres of the proscribed UNLF surrendered to DGP Maipur Y Joykumar, IPS and IG AR (South) Maj Gen CA Krishnan at a ceremony held at HQ IG AR (South) at Mantripukhri today.
The two cadres are Sunil @ Kiyamlakpa and Herojeet @Silongba.
Sunil joined the UNLF 293 BN on October 27 of 2007 and received training at Tuambual camp for 60 days.
Herojeet @ Silongba, joined the armed wing of the banned PLA in 2005. He defected to 293 BN of UNLF on April 14 of 2009. He received his training at Mintha camp for 45 days.
Both the individuals surrendered to 6 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under IGAR (S) on March 15.
DGP Joykumar addressed the gathering and welcomed the two youths to the mainstream of the civil society.
He further said that all possible assistance will be given to youths who lay down their arms, and become responsible citizens of the state.
He assured that all possible steps would be taken by the Govt of Manipur to rehabilitate the young men.
Both the individuals expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to Assam Rifles and Manipur State Govt.
