Myanmar military take away Ukhrul villagers

IMPHAL, Mar 20: In a clear instance of transgression into Indian/Manipur boundary by Myanmar police, four villagers, including a teenager and a college lecturer from Kang- pat Khunou of Ukhrul district were reportedly picked up by cops of the neighbouring country on March 8 last.
According to information received by the press, Myan-mar police personnel entered into the Indian territory (Skipe village) at around 10 am of March 8 and rounded up the four persons on the charge of stealing timber from Myanmar.
Apart from their belongings, the cops also took away one Shaktiman truck (MN 02-9336) loaded with 13 timber logs with them.
The four persons are identified as Ngalo Ningshen (40) s/o Varesui Ningshen, Themson Chitung (38) s/o late Shan-gai Chithung, Shangreiyo Keishing (18) s/o Joseph Keis- hing and Manurim Keishing (14) s/o Robinson Keishing. Ngalo is a part time Lecturer of Pettigrew College, Ukhrul.
Village headman had reported the incident to Kamjong Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner by submitting written memorandums.
Although, it is not clear whether the State administration/Indian authority has taken up any step to secure release of the villagers, a source said an FIR has been lodged with the Kamjong police station regarding the incident. The source further said that following Ukhrul DC’s intimidation to the State Home Dept, the case is likely to be handled by Immigration Dept, Moreh.
