Mokokchung, Nov 30 (NPN): Lajong Football Club, Shillong, the only professional football club from North East India is currently on a promotional tour to Nagaland covering districts like Mokokchung, Dimapur and Kohima. Likewise, Lajong F/C reached Mokokchung Tuesday’s morning and has started a clinic for under-15 boys at Mokokchung.
The clinic is being held with logistic support from the Mokokchung District Football Association. Interacting with the media, Lajong’s Andrew, Head of Operations revealed that the club’s promotional tour is an annual event and that this year they have two states on their scheduled including Nagaland and Manipur.
He also added that they were on a mission to find the next Naga boy who will be playing for them (Lajong F/C) after the selection from the clinic.
On being queried on how many boys they were planning to select, he replied that they will select as many as they can depending on the talent and the passion of the youngsters, adding that focus would be being given to the youth from the region.
He also said that after their selection, the selected youths will be given formal training in their academy and will be allowed to play in Indian League of Manchester Club. Asking about those school drop outs under this category, he replied that theirs is an academy system and that formal education was mandatory. “Intelligent football is a good footballer”, said Andrew.
Altogether 15 boys from Mokokchung are participating in the two-day clinic. Further, an exhibition match will be played on Wednesday between Mokokchung District Football Association and Lajong F/C from 2pm at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
