Village chief shot dead

Imphal, Nov 26: A village chief has been shot dead by some unidentified armed persons right in front of his wife at around 4.30 pm of November 24. A police source informed that the shocking incident took place at Tuipijang village under Chakpikarong police station in Chandel district.

Mohjol village chief Ngamkholel Baite (55) and his wife Lhingnei Baite were on their way back home from their agricultural field when some unidentified persons came near Ngam-kholel and shot him on the head from point blank range without saying any words.

Ngamkholel died on the spot. It is reported that Mohjol is under Chura-chandpur district though located at the border with Chandel district. With registration of a case at Chakpi- karong police station, post mortem examination of the corpse was conducted today at JNIMS.

On the other hand, Lhingnei Baite is still wondering why and which UG group killed her husband so mercilessly.
