While the COPTAM demands for solution which are not against the State’s integrity, the concept and attitude of the Government in its step-motherly treatment of the tribals, goes be- yond it, alleged COPTAM.
The Government has a determined policy to exploit the land and rights of the tribal people, it added.
The Government still pretends to show concern for tribals while its sole intention has always been to seize maximum tribal land, COPTAM further alleged in a statement.
Dubbing Hill Areas Committee (HAC) as a toothless institution, COPTAM contended that all the HAC plans to uplift the tribals are often voted down in the State Assembly and insisted that it was originally designed to be the Hill Assembly.
The COPTAM also expressed strong reservation against the Government’s decision of rehabilitating KCP (Lallumba) surrenderees at Leikun in Chandel district.
