South Nagas condemn Manipur’s atrocity

Dimapur, May 10 (MExN): South Naga Union of Nagaland State met in Diphupar on May 7 to discuss the Mao Gate incident of May 6. The union condemned the brutal action of the Manipur Police commandoes and IRB which left three students dead and about a hundred injured.
The union also condemned the situation that followed where civilians were severely beaten-up after house-to-house raids were conducted. This forced the people to evacuate from Mao Songsong and Kalinamei villages.
“The action of the said forces after the place had been evacuated
– that of breaking into the now-vacant houses and systemically robbing the households of money and valuables, not even sparing the household chickens. Many shops had also been broken and consumer goods and eatables stolen,” the union said a statement today. “The incident exposes the fact for all to witness – that Naga has no future in Manipur, with Manipur,” the SNUN.

The SNUNS also expressed appreciation to the Joint Working Group of the Naga Political Groups’ stated position that “no one should be barred from ones native land” in regard to the opposition posed by the Manipur Government and its security forces to NSCN (IM) general secretary Th. Muivah’s visit to his native village. “The statement is a ground breaking stand and proves that Naga people can come together and work together as we are after all, one people with the same culture and traditions,” the union said.
