Delhi University (DU) admission schedule for its undergraduate courses for the 2010-11 academic session that is likely to start on July 21.
The admission process starts on May 28, with the sale of pre-admission forms, and will continue till July 9, the last date for admission after the fourth cut-off list.
However, subject to availability of seats, the last date for admission will be August 6. The conversion of vacant OBC seats to general ones will be done by August 16.The common pre-admission forms will be available at
16 designated centres for Rs 50. They are not available online or cannot be ordered or submitted by post. There is no minimum age bar for admission to the first year of undergraduate courses except in some professional courses.All colleges except St Stephen’s and Jesus & Mary College accept the common pre-admission form.
For admission through ECA and sports quota, candidates have to apply on separate forms of individual colleges Sports trials will be conducted centrally by the university and not individual colleges this time. There will be 75% weightage for certificates and the rest 25% for performance in the trial.
ECA trials will be conducted by individual colleges.Different forms will also be required to apply for CATE for admission in BA (honours) English. The forms will be available in 17 colleges where admission is sought.
Candidates have to contact individual colleges for applying to professional courses such as journalism, BMMMC, biomedical sciences, home science.For hostel facilities, contact the college. Admission in a college does not ensure admission in the hostel. Allocation of rooms is based on merit and is allowed only for outstation candidates.
Hostels in most North Campus colleges will be closed for renovation till October. So the candidates will have to arrange for lodging elsewhere.SC/ST candidates require two self-attested photocopies of their caste certificate, a self-attested photocopy and certificate of classes X and XII (provisional) and two photographs
Sports Quota
Delhi University (DU) this year has centralized the trial procedure for candidates seeking admission under the sports quota. This means that candidates will not have to appear for trials at colleges but only before the university committee in the third week of June.
Every college reserves 5% of its seats for admission under the quota for sports as well as extra-curricular activities. While the sports trials are going to be centralised, the trials for ECA will continue to be conducted by colleges. Candidates will still have to apply at individual colleges depending on the sport they offer. For admission under sports quota, 25% weightage will be given to the performance in the trial and 75% to the certificates.
Trials will be held from Monday to Saturday at different venues for various sports in the third week of June. Apart from Tennis, trials for all other sports will be held outside North Campus as the college grounds are being spruced up for the Commonwealth Games. Trials for four to five games will be held simultaneously to make time for all applicants. The officials said that trials for all sports available in DU will be conducted and each trial is expected to be evaluated by a committee that may include a university official, a player, and college coach.

In its last year of capacity expansion for the rollout of 27% OBC quota, DU has added 5,000 seats. This year it has added webchat and released admission booklet detailing college-wise, course-wise availability of seats This is the third year in a row that the varsity will increase the number of seats for rollout of 27% OBC quota in its 65 regular colleges. Adding 5,000 seats, DU will now offer 54,000 seats — 27,000 general, 14,000 OBC, 12,150 SC/ST and the remaining in categories including disabled, sports etc — to aspirants from across the country.
The first cut-offs are likely to be declared on June 22, followed by a three-day admission process. The second cut-off will be declared on June 26, the third on July 1 and the fourth notification (if any) on July 6.
In the new session, the varsity aims at bringing greater transparency to the sports quota admissions. With this objective, DU is centralizing the trials, which till last year were conducted by colleges. The candidates will have to appear for trials in the third week of June at venues fixed by the university. These will be evaluated on a scale of 25 and marks sent to individual colleges.
Another new feature this year has been the introduction of real-time webchat on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 5pm. As a result, according to dean, students’ welfare (DSW) officials, the admission committee has already generated over 2,000 questions and answers, which would be made online.
The admission bulletin for the first time has also provided a detailed college-wise and course-wise availability of seats. For SC/ST category admissions, LCD projections would be used to update the students about the number of seats, vacancies and status of the admission process.
With DU completing the implementation of 27% quota for OBC candidates, there will be no further increase in seats from next year. ‘‘We have increased the number of seats by 54% (18% in each year from 2007-08). With the number of seats going up, it will be easier for students of the reserved categories to get admission,’’ said S K Vij, dean, students’ welfare.
All colleges implementing the quota have received Rs 6 crore to Rs 12 crore for infrastructure upgrade, said Vij. He added that work was on in most colleges and that the dean of colleges had been monitoring the progress through regular meetings. ‘‘Any construction requires various permissions and clearances from different authorities which takes time. Some colleges have already created extra rooms using bamboo and porta cabins,’’ Vij said.
The forms can be bought from and submitted at 17 centres. Bharti College would be replaced by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College this year from the list of the centres.
The School of Open Learning (SOL) will also start its process from June 1 and will complete it on August 31 without late fee and October 29 with late fee.
