Pillai visits KNO designated camp

Imphal | February 26 : Union Home secretary, G.K Pillai told the Kuki National Front (KNF) that its issue would be apprised with the Centre. GK Pillai on Friday said this while visiting a designated camp of KNF at Natheljang village in Senapati district in Manipur to inspect the recently opened designated camp of Kuki militant outfit under the umbrella body of the National Organisation (KNO). The KNF which is under the KNO, has been demanding a separate Kuki homeland.
G.K Pillai arrived in Imphal on Friday at 9:30am.He is in a two-day visit to Manipur to review the law and order situation and also take stock of the latest development regarding the underground outfits under the Suspension of Operation (SoO). G.K Pillai visited Senapati district along with the top officials including the state director general of police (DGP), the state chief secretary and the director, North East-2 of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Meanwhile, Hegin, external affairs secretary on behalf of the KNF submitted a memorandum to Union Home secretary GK Pillai demanding a separate Kuki homeland. GK Pillai also interacted with about 250 cadres of the KNF in the camp. A total of 19 Kuki outfits are under the Suspension of Operation (SoO).Out of which, 11 are under Kuki National Organization (KNO) and 8 are under United People’s Front (UPF). It is worth mentioning that the KNF is under the SoO with the Government of India since August 2005.

After returning from Senapati district, GK Pillai also visited the Manipur Police Training School (MTPS) at Pangei which was followed by a meeting with Gurbachan Jagat, Governor of Manipur at Raj Bhavan, Imphal. Later, a meeting of Strategic and Operation Groups (SOG) was held at the conference hall of Old Secretariat, Imphal. The meeting was attended by all the high ranking officials of the state including the chief secretary, the DGP, the principal secretary (home) and also official representatives from the army, paramilitary and BSF deployed in the state.
Meanwhile, security was tightened in Imphal during the visit of Union home secretary Gopal Krishna Pillai who came along with the director NE-2 of MHA, RR Jha It is worth mentioning that the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) had boycotted Pillai’s visit alleging that leaders of New Delhi visiting Manipur never carried out anything good for the people.
