Chavang Kut
IMPHAL, Oct 28:Chavang Kut, the traditional post-harvest festival of Chin-Mizo-Kuki groups was celebrated at Leplen village in true festive spirit and gaiety today. Significantly, the celebration was jointly organised by 14 Kuki villages located within Sadar Hills area and Ukhrul district.
In the preceding years, the festival was celebrated separately in their own villages. But this time, the 14 villages organised the festival jointly under the banner of the Ihang Area Kuki Sports Association (IAKSAM). The festival was opened with a greeting from Kutpa Letsei Haokip. This was followed by presentation of dance and music numbers from different cultural troupes coming from different villages.
Earlier, former president of KSO Ukhrul District Yamlet Khongsai who was chief guest of the occasion hoisted Kut flag.
Speaking at the occasion, Yamlet Khongsai expressed his gladness at the 14 villages celebrating Chavang Kut festival together. He also hailed the chiefs and social leaders of each of these villages.
He also presented red blankets to the village chiefs as gifts of the Kut festival.
The inaugural function was graced by chief of K Khullen village Thangkholen Haolai and president of Kuki Inpi Ukhrul district Kamthang Haokip as president and guest of honour respectively.
The evening session of the celebration was graced by Tingpibung village chief Kaihao Hangshing, KSO Ukhrul district president Thanglun Baite and Leplen village chief Paolan Haokip as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
