Lamka, June 03 2009: Claiming their initiative and moves for restoration of peace and reconciliatory measures taken up by the KNO since the inadvertent shoot-out at Gunjil village with the UKLF has not yielded the desired results so far KNO today said it is committed for mutual understanding and rapprochement with the UKLF and appeals for peace and solidarity among the Kuki UG groups.
Since the unfortunate and inadvertent shoot-out which broke out at Gunjil village (Chandel district) on May 11 the initiative and moves for restoration of peace in the area and reconciliatory measures taken by the KNO has not yielded the desired results as the UKLF still maintains a hardnosed attitude so far, said a statement issued by Lenin H Kuki, Secretary Information and Publicity, KNO.
Denying that the organization has declared war, as was reported by a State daily on its June 1 issue, the statement said the KNO, since its inception has never declared war upon any group fighting for the cause of the indigenous people, much less upon its own brothers.
Instead they were primarily devoted to resurrecting Kuki self-Government in Kuki ancestral land, it said adding their fight is against those that claim their ancestral land, those that maimed the Kukis and deny them the right to govern themselves.
It also appealed to their brethren in the UKLF to free themselves from the shackles of those holding them captive and join forces with those struggling for Kuki national rights.
Reiterating that it has entered into SoO with the GOI for the peaceful negotiated settlement of the 'Kuki cause', KNO said, bent upon stalling any progress out of such agreement certain anti-Kuki elements are out to create chaos and confusion.
Hence it called upon the Kuki people, UKLF in particular not to fall in the death trap laid by such element.
