Imphal, Nov 30: Countering the allegation levelled against late chief of Tuipijang village , the JAC formed in protest against the killing of Ngamkholet Baite has denounced the Chandel district based Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) and Thadou Students Association (TSA) as the mouthpieces of the armed group UKLF.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here this evening, JAC chairman S Suantak asserted that TTC and TSA have been supporting the activities of UKLF. The JAC regrets the fact that civil organisations in the State have been keeping their eyes closed over such nefarious links and activities.
The claim of the UKLF that late village chief Ngamkholet Baite was the founder of KNLF is baseless and unfounded. Cook- ing up false charges only after a person has been done to death is very unfortunate and it is act of cow- ardice, the chairman said.
The chairman contended that mouthing the same baseless claim of the UKLF by TTC and TSA through media has shown that they are the mouthpieces of the armed outfit.
Why don’t TTC and TSA reported the matter to the Government if they knew about planting of land-mines at Tupiching and formation of KNLF?, the chairman questioned.
TTA and TSA have no right to appeal against calling bandh in protest against the killing of an innocent village chief, he added.
Secretary of the JAC Jangmang, who was also present at the occasion, quoted the statement of Lhingnei, wife of late Ngamkholet and said that before being taken away Ngamkholet, the two armed UKLF cadres have assured that her husband was being taken to the AR post at Aigejang for some talks and nothing would happen.
So, the silence of the AR in this regard is regrettable, the secretary said.
Meanwhile, the JAC has expressed its gratitude to Zillai General HQs, CDSU, Zomi Students’ Federation and KSO for their support towards ensuring the success of the 12-hour Chakka bandh called in Churachandpur district today in protest against the killing.
Ngamkholet Baite was shot dead by armed cadres of UKLF on the night of November 24.
In protest against the killing, the JAC has threatened to launch a series of intense agitations if its demands were not considered by the Government.
The demands include payment of Rs 3 lakhs as compensation to the berea-ved family, taking up nece- ssary action against UKLF and deployment of VDF in Sugnu Sangaikot area.
