CDSU petitions CM for SSC exam centre

IMPHAL, Nov 25 : Pointing out that candidates from Churachandpur district face a number of inconveniences while appearing for different SSC examinations, mostly conducted at Imphal, the Churachandpur District Students’ Union (CDSU) has proposed setting up of an SSC exam centre at Churachandpur district headquarters at the earliest.

in a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, CDSU reminded the State Government that an MOU had been signed under which the latter agreed to recommend to the Central Government for setting up SSC exam centre at Churachandpur.

Mentioning that till September 2010 records maintained by the District Employment Exchange indicate that there are 71,125 unemployed youths in the district, the CDSU representation reasoned that presence of such a huge number of unemployed youths necessitates establishing of an SSC exam centre.

While expressing strong resentment that inspite of the agreement there is no sign of positive measures taken by the State Government on the issue, CDSU said by holding SSC examinations only at Imphal many candidates are deprived opportunity to appear in SSC examinations or similar exercise conducted by the MPSC as Imphal is prone to wildcat agitations such as bandh, blockades and strikes.

Contending that such disruptive agitations imposed in the valley areas are intended to hinder conveyance of candidates from other districts and remote areas, CDSU cited an incident on July 27, 2008 wherein bandh supporters along Tiddim Road obstructed movement of candidates from Churachandpur district who were supposed to appear in the Combined Graduate Exam 2008.

The student body also highlighted that Churachandpur district headquarters has every facilities necessary for holding SSC examinations in addition to the district being the second largest town of Manipur not only in terms of population but also in literacy rate and number of educated unemployed youths.

Meanwhile, another CDSU release deplored recent decision of the State Cabinet to appoint a Senior MCS officer for the post of Executive Director/DRDA.

The CDSU reiterates its stance in conformity to Central Govt guidelines that the post of Executive Director/DRDA be entrusted to a competent officer, preferably an IAS officer, the student body said while cautioning that failure to acknowledge sentiment of the tribal people would constraint CDSU to take appropriate action.
