CCpur awards exemplary villages

Lamka, Nov 22: Churachandpur district on Saturday awarded 12 exemplary villages during the month-long cleanliness campaign and competition that was initiated on the Nation’s cleanliness day in October under the aegis of the district administration, Autonomous District Council (ADC) and the philanthropic organisations. Kawnpui, a village that was already highlighted by The Sangai Express as one of the most impressive village, was adjudged the best.

The village was conferred with a rare honour, ‘the cleanest village of Churachandpur’ whilst a citation, a trophy and Rs 50,000 goes along with it. Headquarters veng, and B Vengnom made it to the second and third places each with similar accolades prize money of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

Special prize was awarded to Leijang Khopi, Consolation prizes to five other villages and special prizes to three more villages. Sixty villages were in fray for the competition. Power Minister T Phungzathang, Information and Public Relations Minister TN Haokip and Commissioner (Home) Vumlunmang, all natives of the district graced the jam-packed prize distribution ceremony at Synod Hall.
The dignitaries in one voice praised Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus for her progressive ideas.
