Landslides hit to traffic on NH-39

Kohima, Aug 14 : Movement of vehicles came to a grinding halt on the National Highway-39 following landslides at the KMC Dumping Ground along the lifeline of Nagaland and Manipur today.

Official sources here today said a portion of the road was eroded a week back and the landslides added insult to injuries.

Several vehicles bound for Kohima got stranded on the highway for hours since late last night, sources said adding the Border Road Task Force (BRTF) personnel of the Border Road Organisation (BRO) were carrying out works to enable the heavy vehicle carrying essentials ply towards Manipur.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Kohima) Rothilhi Tetso ordered not to allow any loaded vehicles on the highway and diverted all light vehicles via Jotsoma village by-pass between Kohima and Dimapur.

Incessant rains since last evening triggered landslides in many parts of the state. Power cuts were reported across the state after a tree fell on the transmission.
