The Kuki Students’ Organisation, Shillong is deeply saddened by the incident on 7th May 2010, in front of Churachandpur Police Station, Manipur, where Pu Peter Holkhothong Mate, President, Kuki Students’ Organisation, (GHQ) was injured by some obnoxious and barbaric miscreant(s). It is hard to understand why he cannot be spared, even after Pu President identified himself.
The KSO(S) condemn this incident to the highest and wants to make it clear that such kind of behaviour cannot and must not be tolerated in any civilised society. The culprits must be booked and punished under the law of the land. We also ask the culprit(s) to tender their apology to Pu President in accordance with customary laws, as well as formal apology to KSO(GHQ) at the earliest possible time. We would also like to urge all organisations and associations to condemn and co-operate, lest such barbaric acts will continue in our mist. Last but not the least, the KSO(S) is shocked to learn about the irresponsible attitude of the concerned authority towards the incident. We feel that the district authority must not be a sitting duck on such kind of untoward incidents considering the volatility of the situation. But, of late, it’s heartening to learn that Ms Jacintha Lazarus, DC Churachandpur, has taken keen interest on the issue, which we feel is a step towards the right direction and we give her our best regards.
