Uniforms, I-cards given to 400 labourers at Moreh

Moreh, March 21: The border Town Labour Union, Moreh (BTLUM) has distributed uniforms and identity cards to nearly 400 of its member labourers during a function held at 7.30 am today at the Tata Sumo Parking area at Moreh.

Major Deepak Mishra of 31 AR was the chief guest and president of BTLUM, N Pulindro was the functional president on the occasion. Leaders of communities were the guests of honour.
Among the 400 labourers, 80 were women. Process for handing over I-cards and uniforms to at least 100 workers is continuing, secretary of BTLUM said.

In another development, the Auto Rickshaw Association of Moreh has decided to completely boycott all Tata Sumo services from Imphal to Moreh with effect from 8 am of tomorrow until a joint meeing with the Tata Sumo Drivers and Owners Association is held and an agreement is signed.

A press release issued by T Guite, president of the All Moreh Auto Rickshaw Owners & Drivers Welfare Association (AMAO & DWA) today stated that the boycott will exclude van, buses, DI Tata, trucks and Tata Sumo Service of CCpur-Moreh. All other vehicles will always be welcomed without any condition, said the press release.

It further said that the press note released by Tata Sumo Drivers & Owners on March 18 showed that they do not want a peaceful co-existence in Moreh. The association will wait and watch the direction of public leaders of Moreh to settle the ongoing agitation till March 24 keeping in mind that there should be no equal treatment between the Tata Sumos and Auto Rickshaws as the latter are local taxis, stated the press release.
