ICP, Moreh office-bearers deny abduction by UGs

Imphal, March 21: President of the JAC formed by owners of the land affected by the construction of integrated check post at Moreh, Semjathang Haokip today fabricated the report of abducting him and the secretary of JAC Ngamjathng Lhungdin by saying that they were not abducted by any underground group but misinformation implicated by the Hills Tribal Council (HTC).

Briefing media persons at a press conference here at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, Semjathang said that the cheques issued to the land owners by the Chandel DC at Moreh Police Station as land compensation on February 17,18 and 19 last were collected by them from the land owners on the advice of the KNA/KNO.

Later, the cheques were collected, KNA/KNO and HTC said that they would cut down Rs 56 per square feet out of government compensate amount of Rs 96 per square feet after which they left Moreh and came to Imphal on February 20 last. Out of the Rs 96 compensation per square feet, it includes Rs 66 is land compensation and Rs 30 for construction of house at new place.

Semjathang also charged that their families were forced to lodge complaint by the CO of the 31 Assam Rifles and HTC members who visited their houses. Undergrounds also hired Nethang Haokip, president of the Kuki Chief’s Association in calling out them from their homes. They do not know who Nethang Haokip is.

The compensation cheques issued to the land owners had once again collected by the DC, Chandel, he said urging the authority to make arrangements to get the compensation amounts by the land owners.
Secretary of the JAC Ngamjathang Haokip, his wife and wife of Semjathang also attended the press briefing.
