Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): The Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, Shillong will host its historic First Convocation Ceremony on April 3, 2010. Several dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion .The event will take place at 8:00 am at the Mayurbhanj Palace Complex, where the institute campus is currently located. Besides giving away diplomas to 63 young postgraduates, there will be four students who will be awarded medals acknowledging their outstanding and consistent contribution in critical areas, academic and otherwise, informed a press note.
“A strong technology backbone, innovative thinking along with ethical and humanitarian concerns on a global scale sets this new yet vibrant institute apart from others. In its second year of operation, the Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management is surging ahead with long and strong strides towards sustainable development, keeping its commitment intact towards development of society and environment, ,” the note stated. It also stated that the institute has initiated several programs for different sections of the society including the Government, Armed forces, entrepreneurs and the like.
Under the leadership of its visionary Director, Ashoke K Dutta, the institute has received many laurels and creative breakthroughs to its name within an incredibly short period of time. The IIM Shillong Golf Cup, the signature event of the institute, has already seen two seasons. Students of the institute stand testimonials to the Director’s unique and enabling leadership. The Hall of Fame hosts, amongst many, Neeraj Shrama, winner of the WagonR Think Big Challenge 2010, Ashutosh Dikshit, winner of Ashwamedha 2009,Hari Krishnan and Neeraj Sharma, winners of Kalpavriksha, Swati Goel and Rashi Agarwala,Winner of Ozone , amongst many others clinching the winners’ trophy in coveted B school competitions. Beyond structured education, the institute takes active interest in sports, academia and business, as evident in its partnership with the Lajong Football Club, the EXIM Bank Knowledge Center among others.
In the research arena, the student–faculty collaboration is a dimension that deserves special mention. Driven by a passion for world class research, the institute has contributed a significant number of research papers that have been appreciated and acclaimed by the academic community abroad. To name a few, presentations at the Annual American Business Research Conference, New York, USA, at the 11th International Business Research Conference, Sydney, Australia, at the International Conference of Management on Petroleum Sector, ICOMPS 2010 have been much appreciated. More recently, research papers from the institute have been selected to be presented at the HR conferences, in Hungary and Birmingham respectively.
The note stated that according to the Director of the institute, the need of the day is thrust on innovation, inclusiveness, adaptability, hunger for entrepreneurship, energy, agility, drive, networking, technology leadership and achieve excellence by synergizing complementary competencies within the team and the organization charged with the aspiration for a broader vision and a higher purpose
