Imphal | September 20 : At the backdrop of the Manipur civil organisations continuing their agitations demanding the resignation of state chief minister O.Ibobi Singh and state police chief Y.Joykumar in the wake of the July 23 fake encounter incident in Imphal, reports of bomb attacks on the officials' residences, kidnappings and killings going on unabated.
Manipur is fast heading to anarchy where explosive laden vehicle could penetrate the heavily guarded Raj Bhavan. No schools are functioning as some section of students organisations are boycotting the classes as a mark of endorsing the 'mass movement' under the aegis of Apunba Lup, a conglomeration of numerous civil society bodies in the state.

The United Naga Council (UNC) too joined the band-wagon of condemning the July 23 incident terming it as 'a clear case of terorism'. The Naga body has expressed concern over the rampant arresting of Apunba Lup leaders by the police. The Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) had warned the state government that it would start its third phase of agitation if the state fails to announce the dates to conduct the Autonomous District Council elections in the five hill districts in the next few days. There are groups of teachers carrying on their agitations in the form of sit-in protest the last many days calling bandhs. These groups are contemplating to intensify its agitation if the government order to conduct DPC to recruit fresh teachers is not revoked.

The Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) had called a lightning National Highway bandh two days ago in protest against the shooting of students from Senapati by state police personnel in Imphal. However, the bandh seemed to have been called off after a negotiation with the government.
The Apunba Lup is intensifying its ongoing 'mass movement' demanding resignation of the chief minister over the July 23 fake encounters. The body has been propagating that maximum numbers of civilians have been killed during the tenure of Ibobi Singh. It is expected that a 60-hr bandh will be called in the coming week.
