CDSU raids DC office

Lamka | Sep 20: Days after confiscating a huge cache of census files from the office of SDO Churachandpur, volunteers of CDSU and CoPTAM today at 12.15pm made their way into the office of the Deputy Commissioner here and send home the census enumerators who were working at the BRGF hall.

‘In a bid to ensure free and fair operation of General Census of India 2011, and respecting the interest of all communities, the CDSU has exerted much effort in their own capacity for justice sake particularly in Churachandpur district,’ wrote the CDSU and CoPTAM in a pamphlets that were distributed ahead of their entry into the DC’s office and pleaded the district administration, all concern SDOs and their respective supervisors and enumerators not to take part in any activities pertaining to the general census and its operations with effect from today. All responsible officials at the DC’s office, including the deputy commissioner herself was out of station when the volunteers made their way into the BRGF hall to disperse the enumerators who were working there. The CDSU and CoPTAM meanwhile formally remitted today a letter of request to the Deputy Commissioner who is also the Principal Census Officer to discontinue any sort of activities pertaining to the general census in the entire district of Churachandpur w.e.f 20 September. ‘Failure to comply with our request may result in undesirable consequences, for which the concern authority will bear sole responsibility,’ said the letter signed by Lalkhohao Chongloi, President CDSU and Letpu Haokip, Chairman CoPTAM. Authorities however were yet to trace the documents confiscated by the volunteers of CDSU and CoPTAM on Saturday from the office of the SDO. The local police though, it is learnt have registered a case in this regard.
