Tadubi | May 24 : A public rally took place here this morning and later religious traditional practice was taken by the public by way of piercing the effigy of Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi Singh with spears in protest against the non-withdrawal of state security forces for killing of two boys and atrocities to the innocent public.
It is learnt that the religious traditional ritual was taken up as a symbolic protest against Ibobi. Prodzü Kaphi (piercing of the simulacrum/effigy) is a traditional religious practice which is usually performed by the Mao Naga in order to eliminate or eradicate any evil elements that disturbs the social harmony.
“Prodzu’- it is made up of a straw or grasses as the replica of a person or an evil-sprit that causes harm/ sufferings or death. On the day of performing this ritual, the people observe the day as a genna (a religious – magico observance day) and abstain from all kind of works.
The significances of this traditional religious and ritualistic practice, a copy which made available to media persons said “They strongly believe that there is one supreme God who is the final dispenser of human moral conduct and thus piercing of the simulacrum is the symbolic representation of destroying evils or evil persons. “Therefore this ritual is performed to restore peace and harmony among the community by eliminating the evils that cause them harm or social evils.”
It also stated that the number of sticks that poke into the replica represents the number of evils which caused them harm/suffering or death to the community. The number of attendance also reflects the situation of the community because only those people who have grudge against someone to evils would pierce the effigy.
It also said the fall of the effigy represents the destruction of the evils. On belief that associate with this ritual, it said “they strongly believe in the actual fall of the souls of those evil or people targeted in the ritual.” Earlier, among the many placards read at the rally include; “Down with Ibobi,” “We want peace,” “Peace not war,” “Don’t murder democracy,” “Go back Manipur forces from Nagalim,” “Let us be good neighbours,” “ We support Indo-Naga peace process.”
