Sonia wants stability

SHILLONG: Dr Mukul Sangma crossed the last hurdle in the way to form the State Cabinet when Sonia Gandhi put her seal on the list of probables he submitted to her on Thursday. But the Chief Minister did not have it so easily. Besides pressure from many aspirants from the party, he had the strong words from Congress Supremo - "You have to prove it."
AICC sources told The Shillong Times that the young Chief Minister was told by Madam that "there is lot of expectations from you and so you have to provide stability this time."
Purno’s doubts : NCP leader Purno A Sangma has expressed doubts about the stability of Congress-led MUA under Dr Mukul Sangma.
''I have serious doubts about the stability of the new government after knowing what is happening (infighting) inside the Congress till today,'' Purno told UNI.
He said, ''They (Congress) should stop fighting among themselves and concentrate on development.
I still feel that Congress should put their house in order and must give people stability and good governance,'' he added.

 Congmen disagree with CM move?

SHILLONG: The Congress MLAs backing Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma have not agreed with the first step he made as a CLP leader - induction of an Independent in the Cabinet.
Independent MLA AT Mondal was sworn in as a minister although demand for removal of Independent MLAs to accommodate Congressmen was the root cause of fall of the DD Lapang-led government.
"I feel so because in a Congress-led government, the party's MLAs should find more space than anyone else," according to a Congress legislator who is almost sure to find a place in the Dr Mukul Sangma-led government.
However, the legislator did not undermine the capability of Independent MLAs and said, "Not only party-affiliated MLAs, but also Independent MLAs have the capacity to work well."
Expressing optimism about a full term of this government, the MLA, also a former minister, said, "Let good senses prevail despite the differences in the party."
Meanwhile, Mondal, who is lucky to get a ministry "against the wave," wondered if the Congress camp is unhappy about his induction. "It is news to me," he told The Shillong Times.
"Our demand was to oust DD Lapang and that was met," he said when asked about the main demand of the Congress dissidents leading to the change of leadership.
Meanwhile, UDP legislator JA Lyngdoh, who has already been inducted in the Cabinet along with his party colleague Bindo M Lanong, asserted that this government will provide stability in the State.
On the de-notification of political appointees by the Chief Minister, Lyngdoh said his party would prepare a list and forward it to Dr Sangma for "political appointments" as per their agreement made during formation of the MUA coalition.
