KNA assault case yet to be settled: Village chief

Imphal, February 13: Chief of the Bungmoul Leishan village under Tengnoupal sub-division, Thenkhomang Mate today, reacting to the news report of bringing amicable solution with regard to the assault incident on him and his friend allegedly by KNA cadres some day back on February 9, said that the report was a baseless one and no talks with KNA authority with regard to the assault incident.
Mention may be made that the village chief along with one of his friends, Ngamkhai Mate were badly beaten up allegedly by the cadres of KNA on February 1 last.

Talking to reporters here at a press conference, the village chief alleged that the statement circulated by the Kuki Chiefs Association, Moreh block with regard to solving the matter was issued without his and his friend (victims) knowledge.

The involvement of the chief association in this matter is unreasonable. They clarified the matter without any reason for the name sake only. Villagers are still living with fear of atrocities likely to be meted out by them. Villagers are still filling apprehension of travelling on the road to T Bungmoul, the only road use by the villager as there lifeline. The atrocities meted out by the KNA cadres is a clear instance of violation of rights to life of the villagers, Thenkhomang lamented while reiterating their demand of flushing out them from the road to the state authorities.

If the KNA failed to withdraw its cadres, they will also appraise the matter to the higher authority, the chief said observing that undergrounds have been doing their activities of assaulting villagers and collecting of money with free hands for a long time.
