ATSUM to hold consultation on ADC elections

Imphal, February 24: The approaching district council election in the hills of the state after almost 20 years is considered genuinely, said All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) in a statement while informing that an academic consultation on March 6 next.

Many difficulties were faced in the past by the tribals even with the functioning of the district council in the absent of people’s representatives. To address these problems and also to correct the loophole in the structure and functioning of the district council, decisions were taken not to participate in council elections to press home the demand of the tribal people, the statement signed by its assistant general secretary Robert Leivon recalled.

To discuss the issue of district council, its political implications, its resource and finance, powers and functions and most importantly its past, present and future and also the coming elections, ATSUM is organising the academic consultation programme on March 6 next, the statement informed appealing academicians, intellectuals, senior citizens and mandated apex civil society leaders to attend the programme or give written suggestions and comments before the consultation programme held.
