2 Manipur ultras gunned down

IMPHAL, Feb 21 – A combined team of security forces claimed to have gunned down two suspected militants in an alleged encounter in Manipur’s Thoubal district late last night.

Sources said the incident took place when a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and personnel of 42 Assam Rifles engaged in an encounter with suspected militants at Kerching area, around 40 km south of here, late last night.

The security team also recovered two 9 mm pistols, one AK-47 rifle and two hand grenades from the encounter site, the sources added.

Meanwhile, the identities of the five suspected militants killed in an encounter in Ukhrul district on February 18 have been identified.

The sources also disclosed that the arrested Myanmarese women have been handed over to the immigration office at Moreh yesterday.

Troops of 31 Assam Rifles had intercepted and arrested 10 Myanmarese women besides an Indian lady guide on their way to attend a religious programme at a Buddhist monastery in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.
