Rice shortage :Deadline set

IMPHAL, Jan 27: In connection with shortage of delivering PDS rice worth over Rs 30 lakhs meant for three Assembly Constituen-cies of Senapati district, the transport agency in question has been given 10 days time for handing over the missing quantity.
The decision to give an ultimatum to the transport agency in connection with to shortage of PDS rice worth over Rs 30 lakhs meant for three Assembly Constituencies of Senapati district at the time of handing over the quantity to Consumers’ Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and the district administration was settled after a meeting attended by the Minister concerned.
At the assurance of the Minister, rice quota for January and February last year of the three Assembly Constituencies had been lifted from the FCI godown at Dimapur by M/s Enterprises, a transport agency based at Senapati. But the transport agency had handed over the rice with a shortage of 2180 quintal worth over Rs 30 lakhs to the Department.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Department had even given instruction to the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati for detaining the transport agency under NSA.
However, few days back a joint meeting of Consumers’ Affairs, Food and Public Distribution T Erabot, TD Minister Thaisii, Commissioner S Budhachandra, agents and transporters of the three Assembly Constituencies decided to give 10 days time to the transport agent in question for handing over the remaining rice quantity to the Department.
Rice shortage is frequentt in the hill districts.
