Jamshedpur, Feb 16 : Title contenders Manipur and West Bengal entered the last four stage of women's football competition at the National Games with thumping wins over Assam and Tripura respectively at JRD Tata Sports Complex here.
Manipur, the runners-up in the previous edition in 2007, thrashed Assam 10-0 in a Pool B clash while West Bengal humiliated Tripura 26-0 in another match of the same group.
In the day's other match, Haryana stunned Tamil Nadu with a 1-0 win in Pool A.
Defending Champions Orissa have already qualified for the semifinals as they sit on top of Pool A with six points from their two wins against Tamil Nadu and Haryana.
Jharkhand will play Orissa in their last group engagement tommorrow and will aim to grab the last available semifinal berth as the second placed team from Group A. Even if the hosts manage a draw, they will go through to the next stage since they have three points with a win and draw from the two matches they have played so far.
Harayana and Tamil Nadu have both played out their full quota of three matches and have three points each.
Manipur were boosted by a couple of hattricks by S Rina Roy Devi (6th, 43rd, 59th) and E Bindyarani Devi (20th, 36th, 68th).
The other goals were scored by P H Bina Devi, M Mandikini and A Asharani Devi.
In the other match, West Bengal virtually toyed with Tripura as Sujata Kar led from the front with 10 goals. Rinku Ghosh was the second highest scorer with a tally of six goals.-UNI
