Aizawl (NNN): Mizoram chief minister, Lal Thanhawla asked banks in Mizoram to open more branches in the rural areas to cater the need of the farmers.
Addressing a State Credit Seminar 2011-2012 organised by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in Aizawl last week, Lal Thanhawla underlined the need for giving short term credit support to the farmers including those who get financial assistance from the New Land Use Policy (NLUP), a flagship programme of the Lal Thanhawla led Congress ministry in Mizoram.
He also asked the bankers to open atleast 14 branches in the rural areas where there is no banking facility before the end of March 2012.
On problems being faced by the bankers in repayment of bank loans, Lal Thanhawla stressed the need for proper explanation of the terms and conditions of the loan to the loanees. He said, this is the responsibility of the sponsors.
