As part of the ministry of rural development’s scheme of Special Projects under SGSY now restructured as National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), 14 projects have been approved by the government for skills training leading to placement of rural BPL youth in urban settings, stated TOI.
“These projects involve a total investment of about Rs 165 crore of which 75 per cent, amounting to approximately Rs 125 crore is to be funded by the Union Government. The remaining investment is to be made by the training partners or employers. These projects will cover about 80,000 rural BPL youths for short term training/skill development leading to their placement in entry level jobs in textiles, construction, computer-based accounting, security services, retail, BPO, hospitality, electrical and other sectors,” an official said.
“In the northeastern region, the projects include job-oriented skill-based training for rural BPL youth in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, long-term skill training programme for minority community youths and skill up gradation programme for employment in Assam, training SC, ST, OBC and minority candidates for job-oriented training in Assam, Tripura and Mizoram,” the official said.
