Mizoram jump-starts literacy campaign

Aizawl, Dec 03 (PTI) The Mizoram government is taking concerted steps for making the state fully literate by 2011 and has launched the Rapid Action Total Literacy Campaign (RATLC) in this regard.

Mizoram Education Minister Lalsawta has said that concerted efforts were being made to achieve hundred per cent literacy for the state with the launching of Rapid Action Total Literacy Campaign (RATLC).

According to an official statement, Lalsawta, who launched the RATLC in south Mizoram's Lunglei district yesterday, said that the mission was to make Mizoram a cent per cent literate state before the completion of the 2011 census.

Mizoram had achieved 90.27 per cent literacy rate in 2008, second in the country and next only to Kerala and the efforts would concentrate on southern districts of Lawngtlai and Lunglei and the Mizoram-Tripura border Mamit district.
