Promotion plan for tourism in NE

Agartala, JUL 15: Ministry of Tourism has drawn up a plan for the Northeastern states for the next 20 years and the state governments had been asked to follow the plan.
Tourism officials here today said to boost the tourism industry in the region, the Centre had relaxed the norms for recognition of service providers in the NE states. To meet the need to increase registration coverage for service providers, the Ministry had recently liberalised its guidelines, UNI reported. The Marketing Development Assistance (MDA) Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism had been modified so as to enable tourism service providers in the Northeastern region approved for undertaking participation in travel fairs and exhibitions, sale-cum-study tours and printing of publicity material for distribution overseas, the officials stated.


Besides strategic activities, the Centre provided space on complimentary basis to the NE states, in the Indian pavillions set up at major international travel fairs and exhibitions, including WTM in London, ITB in Berlin, ATM in Dubai to give the states an opportunity to showcase and promote their tourist destinations and products.
