Run to strengthen army-civilian bond

The 9 Assam Rifles of headquarters 7 Sector organised a Run for Peace in Mokokchung town, Nagaland on March 23 as part of the 175th anniversary celebrations of the paramilitary force.

Brig. H.S. Faujdar, commander, 7 Sector, flagged off the peace run at the 9 Assam Rifles ground in the Nagaland town.

The programme was organised to spread the message of peace and harmony in the hill state and motivate the people to shun violence and adopt the path of peace.

The peace run was also held with an aim to strengthen the bond between the local populace of Mokokchung district and the Assam Rifles, known as “friends of the hill people”.

About 450 students from nine different schools of Mokokchung district participated in the run.

Novel gesture

The 315 Field Regiment of Red Horns Division dedicated a library to the people of Kajiamati village as part of its efforts to usher in peace and development in the Udalguri area along with other parts of Assam.

Col S.D. Upadhyay, commanding officer of the Kargil Gunners, inaugurated the library under Operation Sadbhavana at a colourful function held in the village on the outskirts of Udalguri town March 31.

Col Upadhyay urged the local people to utilise the facilities being made available by the army and called for empowerment of the youth through the medium of quality education.

Stressing the need for peace in the region, he exhorted the local people to contribute to Assam’s development in all possible ways and assured that the army would always stand by the people of the state in their hour of need.

Col Upadhyay also outlined various other development activities being undertaken by the army in the district.

Ganesh Musahari, principal of Kajiamati High School, addressing the meeting on the occasion, thanked the army for construction of the library on the school premises and urged the students to make full use of the facility. Students also performed a Bihu dance on the occasion.

Health camp

The 43 Assam Rifles of headquarters 26 Sector under headquarters Inspector-general, Assam Rifles (South) and 22 Grenadiers conducted a medical camp at New Samtal village in Manipur on March 26.

A team of medical officers and paramedical staff of 43 Assam Rifles and 22 Grenadiers conducted the camp. Over 450 patients were diagnosed and provided medicines. Besides, free medicines were given to the poor and needy patients.
