Left starts campaign for ADC

Agartala, April 20: The Left Front in Tripura is leaving nothing to chance to make a clean sweep of all 28 elective seats in the election to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) slated for May 3, despite the virtual absence of the fragmented Opposition from the campaigns.
Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar is spearheading the Left Front campaign across the state, holding rallies in the hilly interiors.

At a huge rally this morning in the Taichhama area under Mirza-Kathalia-Rajapur ADC constituency in West Tripura’s Sonamura sub-division, Sarkar questioned the advisability of voting for the Congress and the INPT.
“Can any one vote for the Congress and the INPT that tried to destroy the ADC during their rule in two phases in 1990-95 and again in 2000-2005? The Congress had always opposed the formation of the ADC and had even boycotted the first polls in 1982 while their ally, the INPT, had virtually handed over the council to the NLFT militants. Will any of you will vote for such sinister forces?” he asked, campaigning for Left Front candidate Parikshit Murasingh.
“Tripura’s face is changing fast as you are well aware, we have the best possible infrastructure for higher education, road network, electrical connectivity and in all other things. The per capita income in the state has registered a major rise and is on a par with the national average. This can continue only if the Left Front remains in power,” he said.
Leader abducted
NLFT militants last night abducted a CPM member, Shankar Bijay Chakma, 35, from his home at Dalucherra in Dhalai district around 9pm, raising fears that the outfit was planning attacks in the run-up to the elections.
