NEW DELHI, April 21 – Theatre buffs in Delhi are in for a rare treat. The renowned mobile theatre group the Kohinoor is staging some of its best plays during a four-day extravaganza.
The mobile theatre company is here at the invitation of the National School of Drama (NSD) and would perform at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) ground from April 25 to April 29.
Addressing newsmen, producer, Ratan Lahkar said they have brought in three truckloads of theatre equipment and over 117 artistes to stage some of its best-ever and most popular dramas for the benefit of the theatre lovers of the national capital.
The group is staging its famous plays like ‘Assemat Jar Heral Seema, O’n Moi Munnai Kaoisu’ and Sheetare Semeka Rati. Besides, some scenes of its famous Titanic would also be shown.
Apart from staging shows, the festival would also include an exhibition on the mobile theatre movement of Assam. A seminar on mobile theatre of the State has also been organised.
Lahkar said though the economic position of the mobile theatre has improved considerably over the years, but attraction for historical plays on national and historical figures declined.
Sudhir Kulakarni of NSD said that he has seen mobile theatre in Assam and described it as something unique, which is not seen anywhere else in the country. “That is why NSD wanted to introduce mobiletheatre before the people of the national capital,” he said.
Mobile theatre technically so developed that it is not found anywhere else in the country, he said.
