Imphal, March 15: Personnel of the Village Defense Force (VDF) posting at Heirangoi Thong in Imphal west district fired at least two rounds of guns tonight at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai following a quarrel with some local youths.
Reports said that the VDF personnel fired the gun when some of their men in civil dress were allegedly beaten up by some local youths while the former were moving in the locality this evening.
After the assault incident, the VDF personnel revisit the area with uniform and arms issued to them and started searching for the youths who assault them among the youths walking on the road.
The search resulted in a quarrel which was followed by firing of guns by the VDF personnel. In the VDF action, some local youths sustained injuries, the report said. The matter was subsided when local womenfolk and police commandos from Imphal intervened, the report added.
