Students shut Lamka College

Imphal, March 15: Students closed down the Lamka College in Churachandpur district in protest against the posting of a lecturer from other college as principal in-charge in fill the vacant post of the principal of the college instead of appointing the senior most lecturer of the college as in-charge.

The post of the principal of the Lamka College, Churachandpur has been lying vacant after its principal Thongnom Haokip retired from superannuation from service on February 28 last.

The students union of the college has been demanding service extension of the retired principal or appointment of senior selection grade lecture of the college as in-charge. But, contrary to the demand of the students, authority transferred and posted Dr N Lokhon of NG College, Imphal as principal in-charge of the college on March 12.
Decrying the government move of transferring a lecturer of other college as principal of the college, teachers have been protesting by closing down teachers’ common room.

Meanwhile, DC of the district has appealed the striking students and lecturers to resume normal functioning of the college in a meeting held today with the representatives of students and college.
In the meeting the DC reportedly assured of taking up works for appointment of a senior most lecturer of the college as principal of the college as demanded by them.
