State CPI on court arrest mood

IMPHAL, Mar 23: After a mass protest rally was taken out at Delhi against esca-lating prices of essential commodities on March 12 under the aegis of Left par-ties including the CPI, ano- ther protest demonstration on ‘fill prisons’ mode would be undertaken on April 8 for the same cause.
This was stated by CPI State Unit Legislature Wing leader Pheiroijam Parijat du-ring a simple function held today to honour CPI members who arrived from Delhi after participating in the mass rally.
Around 100 people from Manipur including 64 CPI workers and Manipuri students studying in Delhi took part in the mass rally. Earlier on March 6, CPI State unit took out a similar protest rally against price rise at Imphal.
Speaking at the reception function today, Ph Pari- jat said another country-wide ‘fill prisons’ demons- tration would be underta-ken against price rise on April 8.
Saying that the same mode of protest demonstration would be staged in Im- phal on the same day, Parijat appealed to the people to participate in the protest movement.
The country has been witnessing unprecedented hike in prices of essential commodities. Even as Left parties are in power in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura, these parties joined the people’s movement against price rise.
The Left parties have been urging the Government of India to control pri- ces of essential commodities and also to bear the extra expenditure which resulted from price rise.
The State Govt has no ca-pacity to control price as al- most all essential commodities and goods are imported from outside the State, he stated.
Former Minister Dr M Nara asserted that the common people are suffering untold misery as the Government of India has been protecting monopolists all these years.
It’s time to launch strong movements together with the people, he added.
CPI State Council secretary L Iboyaima, while claiming that the planned ‘fill prisons’ demonstration is in the interest of general public, called upon the people to take part in the protest demonstration scheduled for April 8.
